The Michigan Strategic Fund has approved $12.5 million in grants to support the construction of a 550,000-square-foot pork processing facility.

The Clemens Food Group operation will be in Coldwater Township. It is expected to create more than 800 jobs and $255 million in total investments.

Grant money will go to Coldwater Township for infrastructure improvements, land acquisition and workforce development.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development worked with a group of Michigan pork producers for about three years to consider the merits of siting a pork processing plant in the state.

The Pennsylvania-based Clemens Food Group is a sixth-generation, family-owned integrated pork production operation that includes farming, processing, transportation and logistics. The company has about 2,200 employees.
