A national design firm with local headquarters has signed on to redevelop a former Dayton-area General Motors factory into an 800-job automotive glass plant operated by a Chinese company.
Woolpert, headquartered in Dayton, on Monday announced an agreement with Fuyao Glass America Inc. to provide architectural, engineering, construction support and design consulting services for the renovation of the former GM Moraine assembly plant, which closed in 2008.
Fuyao Glass Industry Group Co. paid $15 million for 1.4 million square feet for the former auto plant and plans a $200 million investment.
The company will start production next summer. Fuyao has said the facility is poised to become its largest plant and possibly the heart of its U.S. research and development center.
