The Heat Exchange Institute (HEI) has released Addendum 1 to the 9th edition of Standards and Typical Specifications for Tray-Type Deaerators. The addendum to the 9th edition provides new material for the following sections of the standard:

Section 2.3 - Definitions - Spray Deaerator

Section 5.2.2 - Standards of Construction - Design Requirements

Section 5.2.5 - Standards of Construction - Design Requirements

Section 6.8 - Materials of Construction - Corrosion Allowance & Minimum Thicknesses

Section 7.2 - Deaerator Performance - Operating Conditions

Table 3 - Minimum Thicknesses of Material

New Section on Deaerator Start-Up Procedures

The standard and addendum may be obtained by contacting the HEI office via email at [email protected], or by visiting the HEI website at http://www.heatexchange.org.

The 9th edition of Standards and Typical Specifications for Tray-Type Deaerators contains practical information on the design, construction, and operation of tray-type deaerators and is intended to serve as a guide for individuals who design, purchase, and specify these deaerators. This standard has been renamed from its original edition and the content revised to reflect the Institute’s position that the tray-type deaerator is the superior design with regard to corrosion resistance and turn-down performance.

This standard and addendum reflect the collective knowledge and experience of the Deaerator Technical Committee, and the standard is reviewed and discussed during regularly scheduled meetings. This process ensures that the standard will be regularly updated to reflect changes in technology, codes, and member experience. This standard continues to be influenced by the work of other organizations, such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), NACE International, the Corrosion Society, and the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI). Special consideration and credit is given to NACE and TAPPI for their extensive research on deaerator pressure vessel cracking. Particular attention and credit is given to NACE standard RPO 590-90. Adherence to this standard is strongly recommended.

The Heat Exchange Institute (HEI) is a non-profit trade association committed to the technical advancement, promotion, and understanding of a broad range of utility and industrial-scale heat exchange and vacuum apparatus. The Institute concentrates its efforts on the manufacturing and engineering aspects of steam surface condensers, closed feedwater heaters, power plant heat exchangers, liquid ring vacuum pumps, steam jet ejectors, and deaerators.

Since its founding over 79 years ago, the Institute has earned international recognition as the leading authority on the technologies for heat exchange and vacuum apparatus. Institute standards are used throughout the world for the design, manufacture, and operation of heat exchange and vacuum equipment.
