General Motors Co. is investing $63 million in a mid-Michigan plant where crossover vehicles are being built.

The Detroit-based automaker said Wednesday that the expansion at its Lansing Delta Township Assembly will add about 263,000 square feet to the plant.

New robotic equipment also will be added to the Eaton County plant.

GM North America Manufacturing Vice President Cathy Clegg says in a statement that the expansion is part of its efforts to "to strengthen key plant capabilities."

The Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia crossovers are made at the Delta Township plant. The 3.4 million-square-foot facility opened in 2006 and has nearly 3,300 workers.

GM Chief Executive Mary Barra said Tuesday that GM will invest $300 million in factories in southeastern Michigan in 2014.
