Drugmaker Eli Lilly and Co. says it will close its Elanco animal enzyme plant in Terre Haute by early 2016 as part of a consolidation push.

Lilly spokesman Ed Sagebiel tells the Tribune-Star (https://bit.ly/VoBkmk ) the Indianapolis-based company is consolidating all of its animal enzyme manufacturing to a site in Great Britain.

He says the plant closure will affect 23 plant employees, all of whom will be offered comparable positions at a Lilly plant near Clinton that employs about 500 workers..

The Terre Haute plant makes animal feed enzymes that help animals digest food more efficiently, boosting farm productivity.

Lilly purchased the Terre Haute plant in 2012. The property is along the Wabash River in an area targeted for development by an economic development and beautification group called Riverscape.
