Boeing Gets Order For 10 Dreamliners

The aircraft-leasing firm CIT Group Inc. has ordered 10 Boeing 787 passenger jets with a list price of $2.5 billion, Boeing said Tuesday.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The aircraft-leasing firm CIT Group Inc. has ordered 10 Boeing 787 passenger jets with a list price of $2.5 billion, Boeing said Tuesday.

CIT ordered the new, larger version of the 787, which Boeing calls the Dreamliner. Terms were not disclosed. Buyers often get steep discounts off list prices for passenger jets.

The deal brings CIT's total orders for the 787 to 20, including 16 of the 787-9 model, which is 20 feet longer than the original 787-8.

CIT said the planes would add to its fleet of fuel-efficient aircraft that are favored by airlines. According to Boeing, both 787 models use about 20 percent less fuel than similarly sized planes.

Airlines have been flying the 787 since late 2011. Last year, the fleet was grounded for four months while the Chicago manufacturer made changes after batteries overheated on two planes.

In morning trading, shares of Boeing Co. fell 67 cents to $128.85 while CIT gained 58 cents to $44.13.
