Airbus Joining Virginia Applied Research Center

DISPUTANTA, Va. (AP) -- Airbus is joining the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing in Virginia.

The applied research center says Airbus will become an organizing industry member.

Airbus, the center and Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced the company's membership on Wednesday at the Farnborough International Airshow.

The center in Prince George County is a consortium of industry, academia and government. It focuses on manufacturing breakthroughs and advancements in applied research.

The center's director, Joseph F. Moody, says in a news release that Airbus is a global leader in advanced manufacturing. He says Airbus will bring decades of expertise in engineering technologies and manufacturing systems to the center's research.

Also Wednesday, Aerojet Rocketdyne announced that it is expanding its role in the center and will become an organizing industry member.
