Nissan Launching Datsun-Brand Hatchback In South Africa
TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Nissan Motor Co. said Tuesday it will launch a Datsun-brand hatchback in South Africa later this year.
The five-seat GO hatchback is designed for first-time middle-income buyers, selling for 100,000 rand (some $9,300 or 950,000 yen) or less. The vehicle will be exported from India.
The Datsun brand is owned by Nissan and was the best-selling brand in South Africa in the 1970s.
The brand was phased out in 2002, but Nissan revived it as the brand for low-cost vehicles for emerging countries in March, when the Datsun Go was released in India.
Nissan has already decided to introduce the Datsun brand in Indonesia and Russia as well.
