Nidec To Set Up 1st Factory In India

Nidec Corp. said Wednesday it will set up a factory in Rajasthan Province in western India to make motors for vehicles and consumer electronics from next April.

OSAKA (Kyodo) -- Nidec Corp. said Wednesday it will set up a factory in Rajasthan Province in western India to make motors for vehicles and consumer electronics from next April.

It will be the first time the Japanese motor maker has had a manufacturing base in India. Nidec will set up the factory at a cost of about 10 billion yen through a local subsidiary to tap the large demand for motors in the country as well as the abundant young labor force there.

The factory, to be constructed in the Neemrana Industrial Area, about 100 kilometers south of New Delhi, is expected to manufacture products not only for India but also for the Middle East and other areas, Nidec said.

The company plans to hire about 1,500 people initially at the plant, with an eye to increasing the number to around 5,000 in the future.
