National Instruments Drops Texas Expansion Plan

National Instruments Corp. has dropped plans for an $80 million expansion in Central Texas that would have added about 1,000 jobs.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- National Instruments Corp. has dropped plans for an $80 million expansion in Central Texas that would have added about 1,000 jobs.

Officials with Austin-based National Instruments on Monday cited economic concerns in the test and measurement industry.

Gov. Rick Perry in February 2013 announced the state would provide $4.4 million through the Texas Enterprise Fund in support of the project. Austin and Travis County tax breaks were also offered as part of the package to attract hundreds of technical and engineering jobs.

National Instruments attorney David Hugley last month informed government officials that the company was opting out of the incentive deals.

Company officials did not immediately return a message Tuesday.
