Navistar is preparing to consolidate an engine production plant and cut 280 workers in Huntsville, but the truck and engine maker is also hiring employees at another Alabama plant.

CHEROKEE, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama automotive firm Navistar is preparing to consolidate an engine production plant and cut 280 workers in Huntsville.

But the truck and engine maker is also hiring employees at another Alabama plant, about 80 miles to the west in the Shoals region.

Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/1lDh0D8) that Navistar is hiring at its plant in Barton Riverfront Industrial Park in the Shoals community of Cherokee.

Alabama Industrial Development Training posted this week posted an announcement on its website seeking production team applicants for a pre-employment training program at Navistar's Cherokee facility.

The company makes heavy steel fabrications and assemblies for railcars and other industries.
