Airliner With Problem Returns To LA

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to the Washington, D.C., area returned to Los Angeles because of a problem with the Boeing 737's air-speed indicator.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to the Washington, D.C., area returned to Los Angeles because of a problem with the Boeing 737's air-speed indicator.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the crew of American Flight 74 declared an emergency, reversed course and landed around 1 a.m. Monday. The flight had departed Los Angeles International Airport around 11 p.m. Sunday, bound for Dulles International Airport.

The FAA says it will work with American Airlines to identify the problem and determine why it occurred.

American Airlines did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
