Sharp Completes Refrigerator Manufacturing Plant In Egypt

Sharp, which was exporting refrigerators to the Middle East and Africa from a plant in Thailand, has built the Egyptian plant to be close to those markets and increase its share.

CAIRO (Kyodo) -- Japanese electronics maker Sharp Corp. held an opening ceremony for its refrigerator manufacturing plant in Quesna near Cairo on Tuesday that will supply the Middle East and Africa.

Sharp, which was exporting refrigerators to the Middle East and Africa from a plant in Thailand, has built the Egyptian plant to be close to those markets and increase its share.

Sharp is outsourcing production to Egypt's El Araby Group, which will make 340-liter refrigerators developed by Sharp.

El Araby will also engage in sales activities in Egypt.

Foreign investment in the Middle Eastern country has been recovering recently after falling sharply in the wake of the 2011 revolution.
