E-Z-GO Recalling 30K Vehicles

Tue, 04/22/2014 - 3:13pm

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Small vehicle maker E-Z-GO is recalling about 30,000 golf cars, shuttles and off-road utility vehicles due to the potential risk for a crash.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday that the steering wheel nut on the vehicles may not have been tightened sufficiently, which would reduce the driver's control and could result in a crash.

E-Z-GO is aware of only one related injury: A loose steering wheel nut caused a vehicle to drive over a curb and led to a passenger chipping a tooth.

Consumers are instructed to stop using the product and contact E-Z-GO or an authorized dealer for a free repair.

The recall involves E-Z-GO, Cushman and Bad Boy Buggies brand gas- and electric-powered, four-wheeled vehicles with bench seats for the driver and passengers. They were sold nationwide from August 2012 through February 2013 for between $6,650 and $10,650.

E-Z-GO is a division of Textron Inc., of Augusta, Ga. The company and its dealers are already contacting known owners.
