New Mexico Won't Tax Aircraft Maintenance

The tax break, which takes effect in July, will help keep aircraft owners from having repairs and maintenance performed by shops in neighboring tax-free states, including Texas, Colorado and Arizona.

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) -- New Mexico will no longer tax parts and labor for maintaining aircraft under a measure that Gov. Susana Martinez has signed into law.

The governor said Thursday in Santa Teresa that the tax break, which takes effect in July, will help keep aircraft owners from having repairs and maintenance performed by shops in neighboring tax-free states, including Texas, Colorado and Arizona.

Martinez also announced that an aircraft services company, Santa Fe Aero Services, plans to buy an El Paso business and move it across the border to Santa Teresa in southern New Mexico. The company's move is expected to create 20 jobs over three years.

The governor also announced several other business expansions projected to generate about 120 jobs in the growing Santa Teresa industrial development.
