DETROIT (AP) -- Vice President Joe Biden says the U.S. auto industry's resurgence since the 2009 federal bailout provides a strong basis for a Motor City recovery.

Biden is speaking Thursday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, which is open to industry and media representatives and welcomes the public starting Saturday.

The vice president says "just like the automobile industry came back, Detroit is going to come back."

He met Wednesday for dinner with Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. The city is undergoing the nation's largest municipal bankruptcy, four years after General Motors and Chrysler emerged from their own restructurings.

Biden told reporters after dinner that the Motor City won't be bailed out. The White House in September pledged more than $100 million in grants to help Detroit.
