Greenville, S.C. (Manufacturing.net) — Materials Sciences Corporation (MSC) has today announced its intention to establish a new manufacturing facility near Greenville, S.C., with a $1 million investment. Under the current plan, MSC will renovate and upfit a 13,000-square-foot space in a former textile manufacturing facility. In doing so, the company hopes to create 23 new jobs.

The company was established in 1970, and is currently based in Horsham, Pa. It currently acts as a designer and manufacturer of composite materials and structures for various industries. Proprietary technologies allow the company to develop custom composite materials for clients.

In a statement, MSC’s president and CEO Tom Cassin said, “Our mission is to continuously develop, test, improve and manufacture advanced materials that can be transferred into military and industrial applications of high value. After an extensive site search, we are pleased to expand our engineering, research and manufacturing operations to Greenville County, and appreciate the support and leadership of the Greenville Area Development Corporation, the South Carolina Department of Commerce and all who assisted in making this advancement a reality.”

MSC officials have said that part of their interest in the area stemmed from previous work with Clemson University and its Small Business Technology Transfer program, which provides federal funding for innovative research.

Hiring information for the positions, which include loom technicians, advanced materials engineers, project managers, CNC operators, quality assurance personnel and more, will be released shortly. Interested candidates can email their resumes to [email protected].
