Ford Motor To Upgrade Buffalo-Area Plant, Add Jobs

HAMBURG, N.Y. (AP) -- Ford Motor Co. says it will spend $150 million to upgrade its Buffalo-are plant and add 350 jobs, which would push employment to just under 1,000.

The automaker has a stamping plant in the suburb of Hamburg, where pieces of metal called blanks are stamped into hoods, floor panels and other car parts.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday said the state will give Ford $7 million in incentives for the expansion, including a $5 million capital grant for equipment purchases and $2 million in tax credits.

Sen. Charles Schumer calls Ford's plan "a massive show of confidence" in the region's workforce and economy.

Michigan-based Ford has 65 plants worldwide and about 180,000 employees.
