Nissan Recalls Over 256,000 Minivans

The affected Serena and Suzuki Motor Corp.-branded Landy minivans are prone to ice crystals building up in their fuel pump filters, cutting the fuel supply to the engine and causing stalling or poor acceleration, according to a report it submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Nissan Motor Co. said Thursday it will recall 256,519 minivans in Japan produced between November 2010 and this August due to a risk of the engine stalling in cold conditions.

There were 47 cases related to the problem in the northernmost region of Hokkaido between January 2011 and February this year, but no reports of accidents, the ministry said.

Nissan will modify the vehicles' onboard computers to keep engine compartments warm by increasing engine revolutions in cold conditions.
