TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Major food maker Kewpie Corp. said Thursday it will recall around 480,000 bags of products including packed pumpkin salad for fear that metal and rubber fragments may have gotten into them.
Kewpie said around 190,000 bags of burdock root salad, around 110,000 bags of pumpkin salad and around 180,000 bags of pickled cucumber are subject to the recall, all of which are on store shelves almost nationwide.
The three kinds of products were made at a factory of its wholly owned subsidiary Co-op Foods Co. in Kumamoto city, southwestern Japan, it said.
After a convenience store outlet in Tokyo received a complaint from a customer on Monday, Kewpie found when it conducted an investigation at the factory that a machine to pack food had been damaged.
