Columbia, S.C. (Manufacturing.net) — Ithaca Gun Company has today announced that it will expand its manufacturing operations in the Myrtle Beach area. The company plans to invest $6.7 million, creating 120 new jobs for machine operators, gunsmiths, engineers and assemblers.

Founded in 1883, Ithaca Gun Company continues to develop new firearms and manufacture multiple gauge shotguns and the Model 1911 pistol.

The new 20,000 square-foot facility will be located in Horry County’s Cool Springs Business Park, which is located near Aynor, S.C. The company hopes that production will begin in 2014, and has cited the quality of the local labor force, along with the availability of technical colleges to train workers, as reasons for choosing the new location.

“Ithaca Gun Company is excited about locating to Horry County,” said Mike Farrell, chief operating officer of Ithaca Gun Company. “We have received great support from the state and the local officials to make this happen. South Carolina offers us the right mix of business-friendly climate, a steady workforce with training opportunities and an excellent quality of life we were looking for in establishing a new facility.”
