SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) -- The family of a northern Idaho teenager who suffered a traumatic brain injury during a football game is suing the school district and the maker of his football helmet.
Robert Clark II and Julie Clark filed the lawsuit in September on behalf of Robert "Bobby" Norman Clark III, the Bonner County Daily Bee reported (https://bit.ly/176UJH2 ).
The lawsuit names the West Bonner County School District and helmet maker Riddell Inc., and seeks in excess of $10,000 in damages for medical costs, lost earning ability and mental suffering.
The lawsuit contends Bobby Clark suffered permanent and irreversible disability Sept. 30, 2011, while playing as an offensive and defensive lineman for the Priest River Lamanna High School Spartans in a game against Timberlake High School.
The lawsuit said Bobby Clark was briefly removed from the game but then put back in by unidentified coaches. He returned to the sidelines after two plays and collapsed.
"He was unconscious, disoriented and obviously suffering from a head injury and/or brain injury," the lawsuit says.
He was flown to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash., where he underwent emergency surgery. The lawsuit says he was placed on life support.
