Dump Trailer Manufacturer Moving Headquarters

SmithCo Manufacturing president Greg Smith says the company has a strong working relationship with the town of Le Mars, Iowa, and that state, and it has every intention of maintaining the bulk of its manufacturing there. But Smith says it makes sense to move its corporate office to South Dakota.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- An Iowa-based manufacturer of side dump trailers says it is moving its corporate headquarters to Elk Point.

SmithCo Manufacturing president Greg Smith says the company has a strong working relationship with the town of Le Mars, Iowa, and that state, and it has every intention of maintaining the bulk of its manufacturing there.

But Smith says it makes sense to move its corporate office to South Dakota. He says the location will also serve as a new South Dakota sales outpost.

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he's confident that the move will be positive for the company and result in future economic growth for the community.

The South Dakota Governor's Office of Economic Development is providing a low-interest loan for the build-out costs of the new corporate space.
