Coroplast To Put 1st U.S. Plant In South Carolina

The German company announced Wednesday plans to invest $12 million in a York County Spec Building off Interstate 77. The facility will make a range of adhesive and insulating tapes for the automotive industry. Officials expect operations to start in the second quarter of 2014.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Coroplast Tape Corp. is planning to put its first U.S. production plant in South Carolina, creating 150 jobs.

The German company announced Wednesday plans to invest $12 million in a York County Spec Building off Interstate 77. The facility will make a range of adhesive and insulating tapes for the automotive industry. Officials expect operations to start in the second quarter of 2014.

Coroplast president Marcus Söhngen says the company picked York County after an extensive search.

The company will begin hiring later this year.

The state's Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project.

York County Council Chairman Britt Blackwell says the announcement reflects several years of York County's efforts to provide speculative manufacturing space using grants from local utility companies.
