CRANBERRY, Pa. (AP) -- PPG Industries Inc. plans to move 500 workers — including 300 from AzkoNobel's recently acquired North American decorative coatings business — to western Pennsylvania within 18 months.

The $1.05 billion AzkoNobel acquisition in April added paint brands like Glidden to PPG's Pittsburgh Paints and Olympic brands. About 60 former AzkoNobel technicians and scientists will relocate to PPG's technical center in Harmar Township, 10 miles northeast of the city, with the other 240 workers headed to a new architectural coatings headquarters planned in Cranberry, 20 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Some 100 PPG employees who work in McCandless, another northern suburb, and 100 more from PPG's corporate offices in downtown Pittsburgh will also move to Cranberry.

PPG says no AzkoNobel facilities will close, although the move consolidates some operations from Louisville, Ky., Dover, Del., and Strongsville, Ohio.
