CARROLLTON, Ga. (AP) -- A seafood company plans to open a $41 million plant that processes frozen fish in west Georgia.

Seattle-based Trident Seafoods plans to expand and move into a Carroll County facility once operated by Chiquita. The expanded plant will cover 147,000 square feet.

Trident's plans call for 175 workers at the seafood plant near the Georgia-Alabama state line. The company says it plans to start hiring in mid-2014, and construction should be finished by the end of next year.

Chris Cummiskey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, called Trident Seafood's decision to locate in Georgia "a big win." He noted that food processing is the state's largest manufacturing sector.
