CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit involving surgical mesh in U.S. District Court in Charleston.
The Charleston Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/13GSbUY ) that Wanda Queen's lawsuit against C.R. Bard Inc. was settled just before the scheduled opening statements Wednesday.
Thousands of surgical mesh lawsuits have been filed nationwide. Only one other has gone to trial. Last week, a federal jury awarded a Georgia woman $2 million in her lawsuit against C.R. Bard.
The lawsuits accuse the pelvic repair products' manufacturers of inadequate testing, failing to disclose potential risks and fraudulently promoting the mesh as a safe medical device.
Queen's lawsuit is one of four bellwether cases before U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin to determine the next step in litigation for the remaining lawsuits. Terms of the settlement are confidential.
