RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Peanut roaster Hampton Farms plans to open a peanut butter production plant in Southampton County, creating 60 jobs.
Gov. Bob McDonnell said Thursday that the company plans to invest $5.5 million in the facility.
Hampton Farms sells roasted in-shell peanuts throughout the U.S. and operates four roasting and productions facilities.
McDonnell approved a $200,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund for the project.
The company also is eligible to receive benefits from the Virginia Enterprise Zone Program and can receive a sales tax exemption on eligible equipment as a result of state legislation passed in 2009.
