igus Keeps Moving After Strong 2012
(Manufacturing.net) — igus Inc. has announced that despite difficult market conditions throughout 2012, it managed to increase turnover by five percent and finish the year on a record high due to what it is calling “organic growth.” The East Providence, R.I.-based company delivered its cabling products to more than 175,000 customers around the world, with its ReadyChain division, which provides pre-harnessed chains and continuous-flex cables, leading the charge.
The company increased its global employee base by seven percent during the year, bringing its total to 2,175. An expanded team of industry specialists are now providing support to sales engineers in machine tools, packaging machines, cranes, material handling and automotive production. During the rest of 2013, the company plans on investing in new employees and further research and development to expand product lines and make its global logistics more efficient. New facilities in South Korea and Brazil have already increased production and logistics capabilities in new markets.
This year, igus has introduced new product innovations under the motto “motion plastics,” which includes micro-chains for tiny and lightweight energy supply applications. The company says these products are 30 percent quieter and 100 percent more stable for larger travel lengths. In order to ensure the highest quality in each product, the company has emphasized the use of its test laboratories, which perform two billion test cycles annually. That emphasis on quality has meant that more that 200 million plain igus bearings were chosen to be fitted in passenger cars last year.
Blase, Managing Director at igus GmbH, said in a statement: “We make three demands on every igus product: Firstly, it has to bring customers commercial and technical benefits, secondly it has to be able to be calculated and configured online and finally it must be able to be delivered quickly. Tribo-polymers as our core technology, combined with innovative design and electronics and delivered in no time as standard or special solutions — these are the strengths which make for a good future at igus.”
