(Manufacturing.net) — Foster City, Calif.-based E2open has announced its recent acquisition if icon-scm, a provider of supply chain planning and collaboration technologies, in a transaction valued at approximately $34 million. E2open hopes to expand its market opportunity and accelerate its product roadmap with the recent deal, as its cloud-based solutions already help facilitate collaboration across today’s global trading networks. icon-scm’s own technology will be integrated into the E2open Business Network, which features integrated business process management solutions.

icon-scm works with some of the largest technology companies in the world, such as Hewlett-Packard, Western Digital, Foxconn and others. These companies have already achieved gains in customer satisfaction, revenue and profit margin by upgrading their supply chain visibility and technology. The company is currently headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany, and holds offices in San Jose, Calif., and China.

E2open is a provider of cloud-based, on-demand software that allows enterprises to procure, manufacture and sell more efficiency through what it calls “collaborative planning.” Copanies like Cisco, Dell, HP, IBM, Motorola and many others are using the company’s software to increase their visibility with real-time supply chain information. The company is headquartered in Foster City, Calif.

Mark Woodward, President and CEO, E2open, said in a statement: “I am pleased to announce the addition of icon-scm to E2open and our Business Network of more than 36,000 trading partners around the globe. By bringing together icon-scm's planning and response technologies and E2open's portfolio of cloud-based connectivity, business process, and analytics solutions, we will create the industry's first integrated platform for supply chain control towers. Additionally, icon-scm's impressive customer roster and employee base significantly broadens our international presence and addressable market.”

Jan Aggerbeck, CEO, icon-scm, added to the conversation: “The pairing of icon-scm and E2open seemed natural from the beginning—in large part because both companies are fundamentally designed to do the same thing: transform global supply chain operations. Together, we will be able to offer the marketplace the first truly integrated, real-time solution for supply chain planning, collaboration, and execution. It's a great win for our customers, and an exciting time for our industry.”
