DennyMike’s Expands Wheat-Free, Nut-Free Maine Operations
(Manufacturing.net) — Maine-based DennyMike’s, producer of award-winning Texas-style dry rub BBQ sauces and seasonings, has announced the opening of a new production and co-packing facility in Westbrook, Maine. With the new facility DennyMike’s is providing for small- to mid-size producers who require a wheat- and nut-free production facility. The new space, which is 10,000 square feet, will help the company meet rising demand for products that are sensitive to a wider range of dietary restrictions.
The company’s founder, Dennis Michael (DennyMike) Sherman, says, “There was a clear need in this region for a small batch co-packer with big producer standards of excellence, and we look forward to filling that need. Our oversight and attention to detail have earned our products more than 60 awards to date, and we promise that we'll invest the same kind of time and attention in our co-packing clients' products. We'd love to help them win awards of their own!”
The expanded facility includes a tumble blender, filler unit, bag sealer and shrink tunnel and is equipped to fill shelf stable dry ingredients of varying consistencies into packets, tins, bags, bottles and bulk containers. In addition, Sherman says his staff are trained to offer recommendations and advice for producer confused by the intricacies of production guideline and safety standards. They can also offer various services, including label and logo design, to lab analysis and packaging.
“We’ve always been gluten free and nut free, and we know the value of a dedicated facility and a knowledgeable staff who understands the challenges and unique needs of small-batch production,” explained Sherman. “As a co-packer, we hope to be a valuable resource to those businesses that are working through the complexities of creating their brands and successfully marketing the products nationwide.”
The company is using this expansion to help continue its growth throughout the Northeast, North Atlantic and Mid-Atlantic regions. The company is also working with specialty retailers on the West Coast and in the South.
