NORTH BRANCH, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say animal rights activists may be responsible for vandalism at a meat production facility in Lapeer County.
Sheriff's Lt. Gary Parks tells MLive.com (https://bit.ly/14G3487 ) that detectives are investigating the vandalism early Monday at McNees Meats, about 60 miles north of Detroit.
Parks says an email claiming responsibility was sent to police and media by someone claiming allegiance to the Animal Liberation Front.
The email claimed that two people glued a truck ignition and the lock to the facility's front door, painted "Meat is Murder" on the building, freed cows and destroyed other property. Parks says damage at the facility was consistent with the description.
Jerry W. Vlasak, a press officer with the Animal Liberation Front, said in an email that he couldn't independently verify that the action occurred.
