TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japanese electric motorcycle maker Terra Motors Corp. unveiled Wednesday a new scooter that can synchronize with Apple Inc.'s iPhone smartphone to enable the rider to record data including travel distance, running routes and remaining battery power.

The A4000i scooter is the world's first mass-produced motorcycle model featuring the smartphone synchronization, and Terra Motors will provide drivers with new services in the future by updating applications, it said.

The iPhone is set in the middle of the bike's handlebar for data recording.

The new model, priced roughly at 450,000 yen, will be launched mainly in Asian countries, including Japan and Vietnam, in December.

"Nowhere is in need of electric vehicles more than Asia," company President Toru Tokushige said at a press conference in Tokyo, stressing the economic and environmental merits of going electric.

Established in 2010, Tokyo-based Terra Motors now has the top share in the Japanese electric motorcycle market at 40 percent, according to the company.
