(Manufacturing.net) — The Eglin, Ill.-based HELUKABEL USA has announced that is German parent company has brought its expanded global logistics center, a $50 million project, online for the first time. The new facility features 1.85 million square feet of fully-automated, high-bay storage with 23,900 more pallet locations than the existing 16,600 locations. According to the company, the high-bay warehouses uses a high degree of automation to improve material flow and guarantee on-time deliveries. In addition, the building comes with a number of sustainable features, such as motion detectors that control lighting and heat provided by a local biogas supplier. The company has installed 2,800 solar modules on the roof and installed an energy recovery system for the electric motors.

Helmut Luksch, Managing Director of HELUKABEL GmbH, said in a statement: “This new building is a milestone in the history of our company. What this means for our U.S. and Canadian customers is that our Chicago and Toronto-based warehouses are constantly supported by our just-in-time warehouse, which stores our 33,000-plus line items, to greatly enhance their stock availability. With the logistics network that we have in place, items can arrive from Germany in a time frame comparable to shipments from Chicago or Toronto.”
