RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Attorneys for a South Korean company accused of stealing the Kevlar body armor recipe from the DuPont Co. are due in federal court in Virginia.
Kolon Industries will be arraigned Friday morning in U.S. District Court in Richmond. Kolon is charged in a six-count federal indictment with theft of trade secrets, conspiracy to convert trade secrets and obstruction of justice. Five Kolon employees also face conspiracy and obstruction charges.
The company is accused of engaging in a seven-year conspiracy to steal secrets on the manufacturing process for Kevlar and a similar product produced by a Japanese company. Kolon attorneys have disputed the allegations.
In 2011, a Richmond jury awarded Delaware-based DuPont a $920 million judgment against Kolon in a trade-secrets lawsuit involving Kevlar.
