DETROIT (AP) — General Motors says its new Chevy Silverado full-size pickup truck will get 23 miles per gallon on the highway with 5.3-liter V-8 engines. The company says that's a little better than all of its V-8-equipped competitors.
GM also says the Silverado will have a starting price of $23,590 excluding shipping. That's $80 less than its primary competitor, Ford's F-150, but $950 more than Chrysler's Ram.
Ford's F-Series trucks are the top-selling vehicles in the U.S. The Silverado is No. 2.
GM is rolling out new the trucks in late spring or early summer.
The timing is good. Truck sales are growing after a five-year slump. The new pickups replace models that were last revamped in 2007.
GM says it has not finished testing the mileage of the six-cylinder models.
