CHICAGO (AP) -- Boeing Co. said Thursday that it delivered 137 commercial planes during the first quarter, the same as a year earlier, and it booked orders for 209 more planes.

The deliveries included 102 of its 737s, up from 99 a year ago. Boeing has been speeding deliveries of those planes. It's Boeing's smallest commercial plane and in the U.S. is generally used on domestic routes.

Boeing also delivered 24 of its big 777s, up from 20 a year earlier. Deliveries of its superjumbo 747 were unchanged at six.

The airplane maker handed over one 787 before the plane was grounded in mid-January. Deliveries have been halted since then while Boeing works on a fix for the plane's smoldering batteries, although production continues.

Boeing also delivered 15 Apache attack helicopters, after delivering none a year ago. It delivered nine new Chinook cargo helicopters, down by one from last year. Deliveries of various versions of its F/A-18 jet, which can be used for attack or electronic warfare. It delivered only one satellite, down from three a year earlier.

For the first three months of the year, Boeing said it had booked orders for 209 planes, after accounting for cancellations. The most recent orders included three 747s for Cathay Pacific Airways, as well as 12 of its 737s and eight 777s for one or more unidentified customers. Customers canceled one 737 and eight 777s.

Boeing shares rose 46 cents to $84.82 in afternoon trading.
