Hyundai Adds To Recall For Shattering Sunroofs

Hyundai is adding more thousands more Veloster hatchbacks to a recall in the U.S. and Canada to fix panoramic sunroofs that can shatter and cause injuries. In December, the automaker recalled about 13,500 of the funky cars from the 2012 model year in the U.S. and just under 1,600 in Canada.

DETROIT (CP) -- Hyundai is adding more thousands more Veloster hatchbacks to a recall in the U.S. and Canada to fix panoramic sunroofs that can shatter and cause injuries.

In December, the automaker recalled about 13,500 of the funky cars from the 2012 model year in the U.S. and just under 1,600 in Canada.

Now it's adding about 6,100 more in the U.S. and bringing the total to 19,600, while an additional 1,110 are being added in Canada, bringing the total north of the border to 2,703.

Hyundai said in December that it knows of no crashes from the problem, but that five people suffered minor cuts.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating the cars in October after getting complaints from customers. The company traced the problem to a manufacturing defect that damaged the sunroof glass.

Hyundai says it will inspect and replace the glass if needed.
