AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (AP) -- Federal workplace safety regulators say a factory in the Mohawk Valley put its workers at risk with a series of violations.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has recommended almost $75,000 in fines against Nationwide Tarp Inc., which makes tents and other canvas products in Amsterdam.

It says there were 19 serious violations at its plant, including possible exposure of workers to lead, lack of safety measures on platforms, overexposure to noise, electric hazards, fire code violations and the presence of combustible dust.

OSHA says the company has 15 business days to fix the problems or contest the findings.

A message left with the company Thursday wasn't initially returned.

Amsterdam is 28 miles west of Albany.
