Yaskawa To Acquire German Controller Maker

Electric motor manufacturer Yaskawa Electric Corp. said Tuesday it will acquire Vipa GmbH, a German maker of programmable logic controllers for factory automation. Yaskawa said the acquisition through Yaskawa Europe GmbH will allow it to strengthen its motion control business.

TOKYO, Nov. 20 (Kyodo) -- Electric motor manufacturer Yaskawa Electric Corp. said Tuesday it will acquire Vipa GmbH, a German maker of programmable logic controllers for factory automation.

Yaskawa said the acquisition through Yaskawa Europe GmbH will allow it to strengthen its motion control business with Vipa's products that have a stable customer base in such areas as packaging, food and beverage, and distribution.

The company said the deal is subject to approval by regulatory authorities.
