Mitsubishi Fuso Recalls Nearly 15,000 Trucks

Mitsubishi Fuso is recalling nearly 15,000 small commercial trucks because the fuel lines can crack, leak gasoline and cause a fire. Affected models include the FE83D, FE84D, FE85D and FG84D from the 2005 through 2007 model years. The trucks were sold in the U.S. and Canada.

DETROIT (AP) -- Mitsubishi Fuso is recalling nearly 15,000 small commercial trucks because the fuel lines can crack, leak gasoline and cause a fire.

Affected models include the FE83D, FE84D, FE85D and FG84D from the 2005 through 2007 model years. The trucks were sold in the U.S. and Canada.

No accidents or injuries have been reported from the problem, the Japanese truck and bus maker said in documents posted Friday on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. But the company's American operations received 25 warranty service claims because of the fuel lines.

The company traced the cause of the problem to improper manufacturing. Tests also found that some nuts holding the fuel lines may not have been tightened enough.

Dealers will inspect the fuel pipes and replace them if necessary. The nuts also will be tightened.

Mitsubishi Fuso expects to start notifying customers about the recall on Jan. 15.
