The nation's largest Hispanic-owned food company has broken ground for the next phase of its headquarters and regional distribution center in northern New Jersey.

Goya Foods received more than $80 million in tax breaks from New Jersey to remain in the state. The 615,000-square-foot, $127 million headquarters and warehouse are being built in Jersey City.

Goya officials said last year they planned to consolidate the company's Secaucus headquarters into the new structure and convert the old building into a manufacturing plant.

At the time, officials said the new building would employ 491 people, including 316 from Secaucus and 66 from Goya's Bethpage, N.Y.-based facility.
