The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday that it's recalling about 8,400 office chairs sold by Office Depot Inc. because there is a risk that they could break and cause people sitting in them to fall.
The leather chairs, called "Realspace Soho Prestigio High-Back Leather Chair," were made by a Hong Kong company and sold at Office Depot stores and the chain's website from October 2008 through February 2011 for about $250 each.
The CPSC said there is a chance that the chair's seat plate could break, which could cause consumers to fall and get hurt. Office Depot has received 78 reports of incidents involving seat plates breaking, including one report of an injury from a fall.
The chairs in question are black and sit on a base with a metallic finish and five legs.
The CPSC said consumers should stop using the chairs and contact the manufacturer, True Innovations LLC, for a free seat repair kit.
