Honda Plans Production Boost At Indiana Factory

Honda says it plans to increase production at its southeastern Indiana factory by 50,000 vehicles a year and hire about 300 more employees.

GREENSBURG, Ind. (AP) — Honda Motor Co. says it plans to increase production at its southeastern Indiana factory by 50,000 vehicles a year and hire about 300 more employees there for the additional work.

The company announced Wednesday that it would spend $40 million at the Greensburg factory to boost its production of Civic, Civic Natural Gas and Acura ILX sedan models. The project will increase production capacity by 25 percent to about 250,000 vehicles a year.

The Greensburg factory doubled the size of its workforce to about 2,000 workers last fall when it started up a second production shift at the plant that opened in 2008.

Honda says it expects to hire the new workers this year and start the increased production early in 2013.
