BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — The former president of a Southeast Texas chemical plant has been charged in a 13-count federal indictment with conspiring to transport hazardous material illegally.
A Justice Department statement says the indictment against Matthew Lawrence Bowman schemed to transport hazardous materials illegally with false documentation and labeling. The indictment also is accused of not properly protecting workers from exposure to hazardous gases.
The 41-year-old Houston man was owner and president of the Port Arthur Chemical and Environmental Services, where two employees died from exposure to hydrogen sulfide in 2008 and 2009. The company also is named in the indictment.
A recorded message says the telephone number listed for Bowman's Houston home has been disconnected.
