Toyota Recalls Over 90,000 Trucks, Vans

Toyota recalled a total of 91,198 vehicles of four models, including the HiAce van and Dyna truck, saying their exhaust pipes could rupture and leak.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Toyota Motor Corp. on Wednesday recalled a total of 91,198 vehicles of four models, including the HiAce van and Dyna truck, saying their exhaust pipes could rupture and leak exhaust gas.

According to the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry, the exhaust pipes in those models manufactured between August 2007 and August 2010 have insufficient strength.

The exhaust pipes could rupture due to vibrations while the vehicles are running. Fuel could also leak because fuel pipes on most of the vehicles being recalled have been attached improperly, according to the ministry.

About 400 cases of malfunction have occurred concerning these vehicles since September 2008, including abnormal sounds emanating from exhaust pipes. Toyota, which exported about 58,000 vehicles with these issues, will handle the recalls abroad according to the relevant rules of each country.
