Snack Dip Company To Expand Va. Plant

Sabra plans to expand its manufacturing plant by 50 percent in response to the continued demand for America's top-selling hummus brand.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Snack dip company Sabra plans to expand its manufacturing plant and establish a research and development facility in Chesterfield County.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said Thursday that the New York-based maker of refrigerated dips and spreads is investing $28 million in the projects. About 90 jobs are expected to be created over the next few years.

Sabra Dipping Co. is a U.S. and Canadian joint venture between Strauss Group and PepsiCo Inc. It opened its Chesterfield County factory in May 2010.

McDonnell says Sabra plans to increase the plant's production capacity by 50 percent in response to the continued demand for America's top-selling hummus brand. Sabra also expects to begin construction on the 20,000-square-foot research and development facility in the second quarter.

The governor approved a $250,000 grant for the project.
