Fuji Heavy To Recall Nearly 30,000 Cars In Japan

Fuji Heavy Industries said it will recall a total of 29,253 units of Subaru-brand Exiga, Forester, Impreza, and Legacy models due to defective water pumps.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. said Thursday it will recall a total of 29,253 units of Subaru-brand Exiga, Forester, Impreza, and Legacy models produced between May and November 2008 due to defective water pumps.

Improperly installed bearings could cause the water pumps to stop, eventually causing engines to stall, the company said.

According to the company's recall report submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, 97 problems related to faulty water pumps have been reported so far, but there have been no accidents due to the defect.
