Fire Rips Through NJ Manufacturing Plant

A multi-alarm fire has swept through one of Camden's last active manufacturing plants, owned by Magnetic Metals.

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — Officials are investigating what ignited a six-alarm fire in one of Camden's last active manufacturing plants.

About 100 nearby residents who were evacuated as thick smoke poured from Magnetic Metals plant in the city's Cramer Hill neighborhood have returned home.

The fire was reported around 11:45 p.m. Monday.

The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill reports (http://on.cpsj.com/MbbPxg ) the plant, founded in 1942, specializes in stamped metal products used in a number of industries, including defense contracting.

In addition to its Camden operation, the company has plants in California and Arizona.
