Manufacturer Going Injury Free Thanks, In Part, To Popsicles

In a job where employees deal with heavy, hot molten iron, there is undoubtedly added dangers, but Bremen Casting is seeing a dramatic decrease in injuries thanks to the added safety measures put into place.

For the last two years, Bremen Casting Inc. has made an extra push to drill down to all employees the importance of safety in the workplace. In a job where employees deal with heavy, hot molten iron, there is undoubtedly added dangers, but Bremen Casting is seeing a dramatic decrease in injuries thanks to the added safety measures put into place.

Safety is the first thing discussed in daily production meetings. All safety accidents and incidents require a report that is emailed to the entire management team. Bremen believes all employees are members of the safety team providing a better root cause and corrective action. All departments also have a weekly safety audit where they are scored from someone trained outside that department. They even go so far as to rate the housekeeping staff on their safety. And in the hot summer months,Bremencools workers off, around the clock, with an ample supply of free freezer pops.

In 2011, these measures lead to a 63 percent reduction in Recordable Accidents; anything requiring outside treatment, and a more than 33 percent reduction in Lost Time Accidents; an injury that requires at least one day off of work. For 2012, Bremen Casting Inc. completed an entire quarter without any Lost Time or Recordable Accidents; a first in the history of the company. They are currently 330 days and over a half a million man hours without a Lost Time injury.
